There are over 10 different benefits available to disabled people in the UK, but most people only know about PIP. You could be missing out on thousands of pounds a year.
This guide covers every disability benefit available in 2026, who qualifies, and how much they're worth.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Who: Working-age adults (16 to State Pension age) with a health condition or disability How much: £28.70 to £184.30 per week Key facts: Not means-tested. Can work and claim. Tax-free. Based on how your condition affects daily life, not your diagnosis.
PIP is the main disability benefit for working-age adults. You're assessed on 12 activities covering daily living and mobility.
Universal Credit (with Limited Capability for Work)
Who: Working-age people with limited income who have a health condition How much: Standard allowance plus up to £416.19/month extra for limited capability for work and work-related activity (LCWRA) Key facts: Means-tested. Requires a Work Capability Assessment. Can be claimed alongside PIP.
If you have a disability, you may get extra money on top of standard Universal Credit. The LCWRA element is worth nearly £5,000 a year extra.
Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Who: People who can't work due to disability or illness (being replaced by UC for new claims) How much: Up to £138.20/week in the support group Key facts: Requires Work Capability Assessment. New-style ESA (contribution-based) is still available alongside UC.
If you've paid enough National Insurance, you may qualify for New Style ESA even if you have savings.
Attendance Allowance
Who: People over State Pension age with a disability How much: £72.65 or £108.55 per week Key facts: Not means-tested. No mobility component. Easier to claim than PIP — no face-to-face assessment.
If you're over State Pension age and haven't claimed, you could be missing out on over £5,600 a year.
Carer's Allowance
Who: Someone who cares for a disabled person for 35+ hours a week How much: £81.90/week Key facts: The person you care for must get PIP Daily Living or Attendance Allowance. You must earn under £151/week after deductions.
If a family member helps you because of your disability, THEY could be entitled to Carer's Allowance.
