How to write a PIP Mandatory Reconsideration

What is an MR?

A Mandatory Reconsideration is a written request asking the DWP to look at a PIP decision again. Explain which parts you disagree with and what happens to you in practice.

Five useful steps

1. Start with the decision letter. Note the decision date, activities, and deadline.
2. Describe real life. Explain what you try to do, what goes wrong, what help or prompting you need, and how often.
3. Use the reliability questions. Say whether you can do it safely, repeatedly, to an acceptable standard, and within a reasonable time.
4. Connect evidence to the difficulty. Explain what each document or statement shows and keep copies.
5. Review before sending. Check that every statement is true and follow the instructions in your decision letter.
